Mark Pascoe Water Sandpit

Since the inception of the International WaterCentre (IWC), a central part of our mission has been to foster a deeper, systems-wide understanding of the value and importance of water. Our founding CEO, Mark Pascoe, was a strong advocate for creating spaces where diverse perspectives could come together—encouraging open discussion, shared learning, and collective thinking across the water sector.

Following Mark’s passing in 2022, our commitment to this vision has only strengthened. The Mark Pascoe Water Sandpit was established to honour his legacy by continuing to connect people, ideas, and expertise in meaningful ways.

What It’s About

The Mark Pascoe Water Sandpit is an annual event designed to bring together professionals from across industries, sectors and disciplines to collaboratively explore complex water challenges. It provides a unique opportunity to step outside traditional approaches, combining technical knowledge, practical experience, and fresh perspectives to generate new insights.

True to Mark’s approach, the Sandpit is not just about solving problems—it’s about sparking conversation, building understanding, and strengthening the networks that drive better water outcomes.

Event Format

Each year, the Sandpit focuses on a different theme or challenge relevant to the evolving water landscape. While the specific format may vary, the event is typically structured as:

  • Interactive workshops that encourage collaborative problem-solving
  • Group discussions and activities to explore ideas from multiple perspectives
  • Opportunities to share knowledge and experience across disciplines
  • Networking sessions to strengthen connections within the water community

Why We Run It

Now in its third year, the Sandpit has become a lively and much-anticipated event in the IWC calendar. It reflects our ongoing commitment to honour Mark Pascoe’s legacy of collaboration and collective thinking, to build a deeper and shared understanding of critical water issues, and to connect water professionals across disciplines by creating space for meaningful dialogue.
