Inclusive Leadership and WASH Specialist | Adjunct Associate Professor

Bronwyn Powell

Bronwyn Powell is an Integrated Water Management (IWM) and Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) specialist with a focus on equity, inclusive leadership and climate resilience. Her expertise in international aid and development encompasses pro-poor approaches, knowledge to policy, governance, water security, stakeholder engagement and partnerships.

Bronwyn works as a ‘pracademic’, bridging academia and practice to influence sector dialogue and impact.  She is driven by a desire to build capacity and apply evidence-based practice to bridge practice and research to help achieve SDG6 – sanitation and water for all. She is a capacity building specialist who recognises the efficacy of peer-to-peer learning and coaching and is skilled in facilitation and learning design. Bronwyn has field experience in over 14 countries primarily in Southeast Asia and the Pacific on consultancy, research, strategic learning programs and tailored training projects with a range of donor agencies, government, philanthropies and international NGOs.

Bronwyn was a founding staff member of International WaterCentre in 2005 and helped to shape and grow the Centre and its directions in international development capacity building and research. She had senior management and strategic roles at IWC for 15 years until early 2025 when she took an external role as Adjunct Associate Professor, School of Environmental Sciences, Griffith University. Bronwyn is the Gender and Inclusion Advisor, IWC GU Pathways Leadership Program for emerging leaders in lower- and middle-income countries, and remains involved in the centre’s leadership training, WASH and capacity building initiatives. Bronwyn works as an independent consultant.

Bronwyn was a founding member of the Australian WASH Reference Group, is a Technical Committee Member of the Pacific Water and Wastewater Association Conference (2024, 2025), Committee Member of the WASH Futures Conferences (2011, 2014, 2018, 2023), Committee Member Climate Resilient Pathways Conference (2025), and Board Member of Queensland Conservation Council.
