Bronwyn Powell

Bronwyn has over 20 years experience in international development in water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH), integrated water resources management (IWRM), social sciences and partnership. A founding staff of the International WaterCentre, Bronwyn worked for IWC from 2005 – 2015 and returned earlier in 2020 to work on applied research and water security projects.

Between 2015-2020 Bronwyn worked with NGO-led WASH programs as Knowledge and Learning Manager of the $103m DFAT supported Civil Society WASH Fund ( and WASH Team Leader for SNV (Netherlands Development Organisation) in Cambodia. With SNV Cambodia she managed a portfolio of rural sanitation projects encompassing community-led total sanitation (CLTS), sanitation marketing, hygiene promotion, safely managed sanitation, WASH-nutrition, stunting prevention, decentralisation and institutional strengthening. With the CS WASH Fund Bronwyn led a strategic learning program with 13 international NGOs across gender and social inclusion, menstrual hygiene management, strengthening the WASH enabling environment, private and public sector partnerships, hygiene behaviour change and sanitation marketing.

Bronwyn is a practitioner-academic bridging practical and research spheres and is skilled at managing and facilitating interdisciplinary teams and collaboration across organisations. She has experience across research, civil society and private sector organisations in more than 12 countries and numerous donors (Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, World Bank, USAID, ADB, etc.) Bronwyn is committed to building the evidence-base for effective interventions through research and innovation. Bronwyn is driven by a desire to build capacity and apply evidence-based practice, and in so doing reduce inequity.
