Water Future Seminar: Towards sustainable water governance

Water Future Seminar: Towards sustainable water governance

Categories

The Sustainable Water Future Programme is hosting a seminar Towards sustainable water governance – moving from diagnosis to transformation with internationally-renowned Water Governance researcher Prof. Dr Claudia Pahl-Wostl, this Thursday, 3 May, 3pm – 4pm (AEST). The seminar will be held at Griffith University Nathan Campus, building N55, Room 0.06. The International WaterCentre will also offer a livestream of the seminar on Facebook from 3pm: https://www.facebook.com/internationalwatercentre/

Claudia is a professor for resource management at the Institute for Environmental Systems Research at the University of Osnabrück, Germany. Her research focuses on adaptive, multi-level governance and management and water resources. It also addresses social and societal learning and their role in sustainability transformations.

Many water-related problems can be attributed to governance failures rather than to the resource base itself. At the same time our knowledge on water governance systems and the conditions for successful water governance reform remains limited. In this seminar, Claudia will introduce a diagnostic approach used to identify governance failures and persistent sustainability problems. The approach can also be used to find points of leverage for transformative change. The diagnostic approach takes into account the complexity of social-ecological systems and supports context-sensitive analysis, highlighting where insights are transferable to similar contexts and challenges.

Live-streaming

We recommend you go to the IWC’s Facebook page five minutes before the seminar begins to ensure you don’t miss the start. The video will be viewable following the live event for those in different timezones. You can join the livestream and access the video at a later time here: https://www.facebook.com/internationalwatercentre/
