Young water professionals it's time to take the lead
Using the latest online learning platforms, research findings and facilitation techniques, this four-week course meets the needs of Young Water Professionals (YWP), strengthening their ability to engage in forms of team leadership common in the water sector.
The course will provide:
- An introduction to leadership in the water sector;
- An introduction to leadership development;
- An introduction to ‘self-leadership’ as the foundation for all other forms of leadership development;
- Guidance on team leadership, including fundamental concepts, tools and tips;
- Additional guidance on leading cross-boundary teams in the water sector, including virtual teams.
Emerge Associates’ Lead Environmental Consultant Aisha Chalmers participated in the first round of the course earlier this year and reflected back on her experience:
“This course definitely proved to me that leadership is not an innate skill, it can be taught, and individuals’ capability can be honed through exploration of different theories and viewpoints. It really emphasised that leadership takes place at all levels in your career, especially in the water industry where we work in such multi-disciplinary teams. You need to know how to initiate and drive processes of influence (leadership) no matter what your role title is and whether you formally manage people. I would certainly recommend this course to others looking to progress their leadership skills.”
The next course will run in September 2016. Registrations are currently open until 26 August 2016.
The AWA has subsidised the cost of this online course for Young Water Professionals around Australia, with similar courses usually run for a much higher cost. There are only 25 places available and places are expected to fill fast.
