Professor Hamanth Kasan appointed to lead IWC South Africa
As the first appointee to our South Africa node, Professor Kasan will
drive the strategy for IWC research and training in Africa. He is
extremely experienced in developing and driving research strategy and
implementation, and brings a wealth of leadership and management
experience to the position.
Professor Kasan trained as an applied microbiologist, undertaking his Masters and Doctoral studies at the University of the Witwatersrand. He has worked as a lecturer and senior researcher at the University of Durban-Westville and at the M L Sultan Technikon. He has been Associate Director of the Biotechnology Department at Technikon Natal and in 1996 became the Dean of the Faculty of Applied Science. Prof Kasan has previously served as member of the National Water Advisory Council of South Africa. In addition he has served as non-executive director and Chairperson of the board of the Water Research Commission in South Africa. Prof Kasan is currently the South African representative on the Governing Board of the International Water Association
