Healthy Waterways wins national innovation award

Healthy Waterways’ Water by Design Program won the 2011 National AWA Program Innovation Award at the Australian Water Association’s Ozwater ’11 Gala Dinner.

The award recognises the efforts of organisations who deliver significant and innovative environmental or sustainability programs within the water industry.

Sarah Jones, Water by Design Project Manager, said “Winning this award acknowledges the program’s significant efforts to assist individuals and organisations to sustainably manage urban water.

“To do this, the program has delivered a range of capacity building products and services for the water and urban development industry that span from best practice guidelines and training through to informing policy development.

“Independent evaluation has shown that the program provides an important leadership role and is a trusted source of information and guidance. The program has helped to produce outcomes such as reduced consumption of potable water supplies and improved waterway health.

“This award recognises the critical role that building the capacity of individuals and organisations plays in transitioning towards more towards livable and sustainable cities” she said.

Healthy Waterways is a not-for-profit organisation working collaboratively with government, industry, researchers and the community to protect and improve waterway health in South East Queensland.
