Scholarships

Applications for scholarships for the 2016/17 Water Leadership Program are now open and will close on 15 September 2016.

Every year, the International WaterCentre (IWC) in collaboration with several industry sponsors offer several merit-based scholarships to assist talented emerging water leaders in organisations with limited resources for professional development to access the IWC Water Leadership Program.

Who can apply (eligibility requirements)

Scholarship applications are open to team, project and middle managers in the Australian water sector who are Australian citizens, permanent residents of Australia or New Zealand citizens currently working in Australia.

You must have:

  • At least three years of experience working in the water sector
  • A current professional role that is consistent with the criteria linked to at least one available scholarship (see Scholarship sponsors and conditions below)
  • English language proficiency
  • An ability to travel to Brisbane and attend both face-to-face training sessions on 13-17 February and 13-14 July 2017
  • Organisational support from current employer to attend the program (if currently employed)
  • A strong commitment to learning and personal development, including the ability to respond positively to feedback
  • A desire to complement their technical and management skills with advanced leadership capabilities
  • An aspiration to improve their ability to influence stakeholders and drive change in order to deliver more integrated forms of water management

 

Available scholarships

The following scholarships are available this year:

IWC logo

International WaterCentre Leader Scholarship

  • One full ($11,500) scholarship for a water professional currently working on integrated water management projects or programs in Australia.




Melbourne Water logo

Melbourne Water Leader Scholarships

  • Two full ($11,500 each) scholarships for emerging leaders in local government within the Melbourne Water region of Victoria who:
  1. Are employed as a staff member in a Council within the Melbourne Water region of Victoria; and
  2. Are currently working to build capacity and drive change towards a ‘water sensitive city’ or the implementation of integrated water management approaches; and
  3. Have a minimum of three years industry experience in water management.

  • One full ($11,500) scholarship for an emerging leader in Melbourne Water who:
  1. Is currently employed by Melbourne Water; and
  2. Is currently working to build capacity and drive change towards a ‘water sensitive city’ or the implementation of integrated water management approaches; and
  3. Has a minimum of three years industry experience in water management.

 

Stormwater QLD logoStormwater QLD Water Leader Scholarship

  • One half ($5,000) scholarship for an emerging leader who:
  1. Is a current member of Stormwater Queensland; and
  2. Is primarily located and practising within Queensland.


Stormwater NSW logoStormwater NSW Water Leader Scholarship

  • One half ($5,000) scholarship for an emerging leader who:
    1. Is a current member of Stormwater New South Wales; and
    2. Is primarily located and practising within New South Wales.

     

    Stormwater SA logoStormwater SA Water Leader Scholarship

    • One half ($5,000) scholarship for an emerging leader who:
      1. Is a current member of Stormwater South Australia; and
      2. Is primarily located and practising within South Australia.

       

      Scholarships value

      Full scholarships ($11,500)

      For full scholarships ($11,500), recipients will not have to pay the course fee (valued at $9,500 excluding GST). In addition, they will be provided with a $2,000 allowance at the start of the program to cover any expenses associated with participating in the program (e.g. travel and accommodation).

      Half scholarships ($5,000)

      For half scholarships ($5,000), recipients will have to pay $4,500 of the course fees, plus GST (so $4,950 in total).

       

      Selection criteria

      The scholarship assessment process considers the following criteria:

      • Compliance with mandatory criteria for entry to the program.
      • The extent to which the participant is ready to benefit from the program.
      • The potential benefits from enhancing the participants' leadership ability.
      • The extent to which the participant has the characteristics typically associated with people who benefit the most from leadership development programs.
       

      Key dates

      • 1 July 2016: Scholarship applications open for the 2016/17 program
      • 15 September 2016: Scholarship applications close for the 2016/17 program
      • 12 October 2016: Applicants are notified of the outcome of their scholarship application
      • 1 December 2016: Program commences (duration: 9 months)
