CEO Mark Pascoe appointed IWA Fellow for outstanding contribution to water industry
The IWA recognised 39 new IWA Fellows and one new Distinguished IWA Fellow for their outstanding contribution to the water sector and to IWA, as well as to improving the wellbeing of societies and the environment.
In a world that faces serious water challenges, whether water scarcity, pollution, infrastructure, or access to safe drinking water and sanitation, water professionals are playing a key role in delivering both enormous societal benefits and global agendas, such as the Sustainable Development Goals.
An outstanding contribution to the water industry in Australia and beyond
Mark Pascoe has been a member of the IWA since 2000 and is a long-term Water Industry professional. Involved in water utility management following an early career in water quality assessment, water and wastewater treatment, Mark has in more recent years worked in the international water arena with the IWA and through his current role as Chief Executive Officer of the International WaterCentre.
Mark has always maintained an interest in the technical side of water management though now readily admits that water management is fundamentally multi-disciplinary and indeed largely a socio-political one. His specialities include: utility management, international water management issues, applied research and education and training.
Water research remains an interest and Mark is involved formally through his own organisation and also as an Advisory Board member of the National Centre for Environmental Toxicology; Science Board Member of the Particle and Fluid Processing Centre at Melbourne University; Advisory Board Member of the Advanced Water Management Centre at the University of Queensland; Research Advisory Committee Deputy Chair for the Urban Water Security Research Alliance; and as a past member of the Global Water Research Coalition, AWWA International Council and past board member of the Co-operative Research Centre for Water Quality and Treatment.
An IWA Fellow is a member of an elite group of water professionals with international recognition and known for their guidance and leadership in the world of water science, technology and management as it continues to evolve. IWA Fellows are nominated for their significant contributions as an engineer, educator, utility manager, regulatory, researcher, scientist, or as a technical leader.
This recognition is based on past contributions to the water industry in general and IWA in particular, and for the nominee’s commitment to continued professional contributions in the future, especially through their active participation in IWA activities. IWA Fellows are appointed for five years and considered for renewal if beneficial to the IWA.
