Bremer River Forum

The Bremer River Forum took place on Thursday 15 April attracting 180 registered participants.

Attendees representing natural resource practitioners and researchers, government, community and industry took part in discussions and the development of a Solutions Statement which was presented to Ipswich City Council Mayor, Cr Paul Pisasale. The Solutions Statement consists of 10 recommended key actions to improve the health of the Bremer River.

The visiting Mayor of Chattanooga (USA), Ron Littlefield, provided a keynote address focused around how Chattanooga's investment into the environment attracted industries to the region.  In 1969 Chattanooga was named one of the most polluted cities in the United States, whilst today the city has evolved into a benchmark for environmental improvement with a strong commitment to sustainable development.

The event which was hosted by Ipswich City Council, International Riverfoundation, International WaterForum and the International WaterCentre inspired passionate debate from participants. A great deal of positive feedback has been received, indicating the value of the Forum.
