NARBO was officially established in February 2004 to promote integrated water resources management (IWRM) in monsoon areas of Asia. The goal of NARBO is to help achieve IWRM in river basins throughout Asia. Its objective is to strengthen the capacity and effectiveness of RBOs in promoting IWRM and improving water governance, through training and exchange of information and experiences among RBOs and their associated water sector agencies and knowledge partner organisations. staff from organisations who fund RBO activities.

IWC is a knowledge partner with the Network, and has worked with NARBO on a number of initiatives. This includes IWC leading training for the 5th and 6th NARBO training programs in Vietnam in the Vu Gia-Thu Bon Basin, Keys for Success with IWRM in 2009, as well as providing NARBO with Water Leadership training for River Basin Organisations in Asia in 2013.

IWC hosts the Regional Water Knowledge Hub for Healthy Rivers and Aquatic Ecosystems and is recognised as having the necessary experience and capacity to deliver training on integrated water resource management.

IWC has been involved in the NARBO Technical Advisory Committee, and has hosted many Fellows from river basin organisations throughout Asia on Australian Aid funded Leadership programs.

Accepting the award, Mark Pascoe, IWC CEO, said, “This is truly unexpected and I am humbled by the award and thankful to be here amongst friends.”
