International RiverSymposium

International RiverSymposium

Less than 1% of the planet surface comprises freshwater, yet it is this freshwater – our rivers, lakes and wetlands – that sustains us. Rivers underpin our economies, providing water for agricultural lands, fisheries, tourism and cities to support growing populations and diverse cultures. Today, more than ever, we need to embrace innovative practices to manage our rivers and river basins. The 21st International Riversymposium will facilitate critical thinking, focus on solutions and inspire delegates to move beyond ‘business as usual’ approaches and outcomes. This symposium will have an emphasis on training and professional development, ensure delegates have the skills and knowledge to implement and deliver what they learn.

About the International RiverSymposium

Hosted by the International RiverFoundation, the International Riversymposium was first held in Brisbane in 1998 and provides a platform for river managers, policy developers, scientists, consultants, NGOs and community organisations to share knowledge and innovative ideas on all aspects of river and water management.

By facilitating partnerships between key stakeholders, the International Riversymposiumcelebrates the environmental, economic and social value of rivers across the globe. The symposium provides an international forum for examining best practice in river and watershed management.

Over the years, the International Riversymposium has hosted thousands of delegates from all over the world. Whether through the RiverExpo, plenary sessions, or the Riverprize Gala Dinner and social program, Riversymposium provides the opportunity to network with river and water management experts on a global scale.

Emerging River Professional Award

The Emerging River Professional Award (ERPA), sponsored by OceanaGold Corporation, recognises, rewards and fosters those in the early stages of their careers in rivers. The award is presented to those who have demonstrated innovation, excellence and leadership in river, basin or river-dependent community management.

The ERPA is open internationally to all river professionals of all disciplines who have been working in their field for five years or less, and have demonstrated exceptional and measurable achievements in rivers, basins or river-dependent communities.

Finalists will present the outcomes of their work at the  International Riversymposium and the winner will be announced at the Riverprize Gala Dinner.

Applications for the ERPA close 10 July 2018, learn more here.
